Functional Friday Episode #3 – Pro-Inflammatory vs. Anti-Inflammatory Foods
Chronic low-grade inflammation has been linked to a wide array of diseases. One of the best ways we can decrease this inflammation is through our diet. Dr. Kirk Mason, Minot Chiropractor, talks about which foods promote inflammation in our diet, and which foods help to DEFLAME our bodies.
Refined Sugar, Refined Grains, Grain Flour Products, Trans Fats, Refined Omega-6 Seed Oils (corn, sunflower, safflower, peanut, etc.)
Grass-Fed Meat and Wild Game, Meats, Wild Caught Fish, Shellfish, Chicken, Eggs, Cheese, Vegetables, Salads, Fruit, Tubers/Roots (potatoes, yams, sweet potatoes), Nuts, Omega-3 Seeds (Chia, Flax, Hemp), Dark Chocolate, Spices (of all kinds), Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Butter, Ghee, Cream, Avocado, Bacon, Red Wine/Stout Beer, Coffee/Tea.
If there is one thing this list should tell you, its that we can eat a TON of great tasting food, and still be Deflaming our bodies. Sometimes people feel very limited when they are told they have to avoid pro-inflammatory foods, but this list shows the great array of options people have to be able to still enjoy food while staying happy and healthy. Another great option for Deflaming our bodies is using nutritional supplements as a way to support natural function in our bodies. Different supplements come in different qualities (especially in this country, where supplements are not tightly regulated). With this being said, make sure you do your research on the supplements you decide to use, and make sure they are from a reputable source. The main brand we carry in clinic is Metagenics from Nutri-Dyn. This company makes sure their supplements undergo proper testing before hitting the shelves.
